The 27th season of Premier League was in 2018/2019 since its inception.
The remarkable characteristics of Premier League in the middle of 2000s was the supremacy of the clubs known as the ‘Top Four’ teams and which were: Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester.  At the aforementioned time, the supremacy of the clubs was visible, by the top four being eligible for the top UEFA Champions League, which out of six (6) places, the ‘Top Four” took five (5) place and which continued from 2003-2004 and also from 2008-2009. In the 2000’s the top four were always qualifying for the European tournament.
It is pertinent to add that in 2003/2004 season, Arsenal was nicknamed ‘The Invincible’ because Arsenal is the only club thus far to be the Premier League Champion without being defeated and which is novel since the inception of the Premier League.
It  is important to state that in the 2000s, aside the ‘ Top Four’ that is always eligible for Champions league, other four of the  clubs that do qualify Champions League are Newcastle United (2001-2002), Everton (2004-2005), Leeds United (1999-2000) and each of the aforementioned clubs became the champions in the Champions League, apart from Newcastle in 2002-2003 that concluded the premier club in the third place.
Kevin Keegan opined that the supremacy of the top four has made the Premier League to be a personification of boredom but though one of the nicest leagues in Europe.  However, in countering Kevin Keegan, the Premier League Chief Executive in the person of Richard Scudamore, stated that there are several disparate struggle that makes up the Premier League and which is premised on whether clubs are at the bottom, middle or top.
It is important to mention that between the 2005 to 2012, in seven (7) out of eight (8) Champions League finals, there are always representatives of Premier League and of which often the top four of the clubs always getting to the finals of the tournament. Liverpool (2005), Manchester United (2008), in 2008 Chelsea won the tournament and with Arsenal   in 2006, Chelsea (2008), Liverpool (2007) and Manchester United (2009 and 2011). Though all got the aforementioned English clubs got to the finals, but only Chelsea was able to win the Chapions League within the stated periods. The only non-top four that got that have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2000/2001 season was Leeds United.
Progressively, between 1999/2000 and 2009/2010 seasons, Premier League clubs that got to the UEFA Europa and Cup finals, were Liverpool won the UEFA Champion while Middlesbrough in (2006), Fulham (2010) and Arsenal all lost the finals.
The supremacy of the top four in the Premier League was drastically curtailed after the above mentioned appearance of Manchester City and Tottenham, of which in all the points won in the Premier League there was coherent gap between the two clubs.  For instance in 2018/2019 seasons and being the twenty-seventh (27th) season of the Premier League, the club that had the fourth place and which had all-time points in the Premier League table was Liverpool and which the club was a twenty points (20) between them and Tottenham Hotspur. The two aforementioned clubs were the clubs that were able to retain an aggregate score of 50% in all the Premier League tenures
In 2010, it was a time for some clubs nicknamed the big six. Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur joined the top four, thereby making them six clubs.
Flowing from above, in the 2009/2010 seasons, Tottenham concluded the Premier League by taking the fourth place in the league and became the foremost club to burst the top four after Everton in five years.
There have been diverse criticisms as regard to gap that exist between the noble clubs and most of the Premier League. However, Manchester City became of the champion of the Premier League in 2011/2012 season and which was the foremost club that doesn’t belong to the top four to be the champion after Blackburn Rovers that won same after 1994/1995 season. The aforementioned season equally had two of the top four, which are Chelsea and Liverpool concluding the Premier League outside the top four places and which was the first time such is happening.
Premier league has remained the number one league in football.
